15 things about faith

"fist steps" : Vincent Van Gogh

I recently did a study on faith. After 19 years in the church, I had gotten myself confused. What is faith? Religion? Trust? Why do we need it? For salvation? For peace? How do we get it? I wasn't sure. I decided to turn to The Bible (I recommend this practice) and here is what I jotted in my journal that day:

1. faith stems from humility (Luke 7)

2. we are sanctified by faith (Acts 26:18)

3. to be righteous is to live by faith (Romans 1:17)

4. faith comes from hearing (and hearing through the word of Christ) (Romans 10:17)

5. faith and love go hand-in-hand (1 Corinthians 16:13)

6. we are justified by faith (Galatians 2:16)

7. faith is a shield which protects us from the darts of satan (Ephesians 6:16)

8. Christ dwells in us through our faith (Ephesians 3:14-21)

9. when our faith is tested, we grow strong (James 1:3)

10. without faith, we should not expect our prayers to be answered (James 1:7)

11. faith should always lead to action (and is therefore made complete by works) (James 2:14)

12. we are guarded by our faith (1 Peter 1:5)

13. faith gives us the ability to resist temptation (1 Peter 5:9)

14. we must fight to keep the faith (Jude 1:3)

15. faith is the assurance of things hoped for and the conviction of things unseen (Hebrews 11:1)

About Abraham, the apostle Paul said this:

"No distrust made him waver concerning the promise of God, but he grew strong in his faith as he gave glory to God, fully convinced that God was able to do what He had promised."
 Romans 4:20-21

He grew strong in faith as he gave glory to God...this part brought tears to my eyes. May I comprehend faith the way Abraham did.
