The Young Woman Who Names Things

Above is a lovely book. It is "The Old Woman Who Named Things" by Cynthia Ryant (click the post title to see it on Amazon.) This books is charming and funny and cute and enjoyable, but more importantly, it predicts the future. Yes indeed, this book is about my future. I am The Old Woman Who Named Things...well, not yet. Right now, I am The Young Woman Who Names Things. That is what this post is about.
I love titles. I love names. I love writing something on a sticky note and applying it to an object so that when people look at that object, they call it just what I want them too.
I particularly love naming things that are special to me. My sisters do this as well. Inspired by my previous post and the comment I received on it from JoyMichelle, I give you this list:
1. My desk is named Alcott after Louisa May. Alcott means "little cottage" or home, and my desk is the home of many stories and letters.
2. I recently received a splendid gift. I won't spoil the surprise of what it is (pictures are coming) but I will tell you that it is named Jane after Austen and elegance and England.
3. The laptop upon which I am typing is affectionately dubbed Merryrose.
4. My house is Eyrie Park for the hawk's eyrie in the back yard.
5. My trench coat is named Bertram.
6. My camera is named Petunia.
7. I have a blanket with a picture of two lions on it. They are named Aslan and Leona.

Now, Sabrina has an ipod named Elijah (because he never dies) and his dock is The Chariot. Rita's ipod is named Lazarus because he died and came back to life. Birdie's ipod is named Violet for the purple-ness of it. Her camera is named Clive (after Clive Staples Lewis) and her guitar is Steve McQueen. Her magnifying glass is named Beatrix. Joey's computer is named Guenevere and our backup hard-drives are Myrtle, Eglantine and Fluffy. Our suburban is named Mr. Burban and our Honda is named Lafonda. Joey's car is Quick Silver(?) Within Eyrie Park, we have The Willow's Looking Glass, Alcott Bridge, Pleasant* Creek, Meadow House, The Gardens, Brown Bay Island, Pevensie Path and Sandstone Path. Birdie's room is "The Armpit," ours is (until further notice) "The Green Room" and we have "The Doll Room" as well. Don't even get me started on nicknames!
